New Song

By JoCo April 19, 2005

I didn’t write this one, it’s a cover of a Destiny’s Child song. I don’t usually do covers, but the lyrics to this song are so freaking hilarious, and it’s been stuck in my head since the first time I heard its delicious groove on the FM radio. I’m not totally happy with the mix, but it’s probably not wise for me to mess with it anymore, so it will just have to do. Check out the banjo and the highly danceable remix section.

I don’t know if posting a cover like this is illegal or not, I’m kind of hoping for at least a cease and desist letter. I always like to hear from fans/haters, so please let me know what you think.

I'm liking the intro a lot!

JoCo says

Thanks Iris, I hope it maintains that level of enjoyment for you all the way through to the end.

Despite my vehement loathing of popular music and culture, I can proudly say that I enjoyed this song (though just a little bit :)).

Nice cover! The danceable portions certianly get the booty shakin'.

You're right, the mix doesn't sound as polished as most of the other stuff on your site, but that's okay. Sometimes fun is better than perfect.

Can you write a school appropriate song about Germany for a school project Im doing on powerpoint. Like before may 2nd.

I mean its cool if you can't but if you could that would be awsome.

Travis Braud says

So Jonathan was it a big check like you had wished from mp3 tunes

Jpez: I appreciate your suspension of loathing. You have to admit, that song ruled even before I covered it.

Jim: you're right, fun is better. Especially in this case, where I can't get the mix right.

Keller: let me think about that one. I'm a little pressed for time these days, but you never know - I wouldn't suggest you count on a JC song as a centerpiece of your project though.

Travis: well, it was pretty good actually. I guess my high rankings are justified, in a big fish/small pond kind of way. That makes me happy because now my baby will have milk to drink and shoes to wear, and also because it means that mp3tunes is making some money. I'm telling you, the revolution isn't here yet, but people don't like DRM - they just don't know it yet.

Holy crap - I remember about 6 years ago when your wife was visiting me in Seattle for some reason, and we had an hour long discussion over pizza about this song, and why it was so bad, and why the rhythms were so incredibly bizarre, and why god WHY are the lyrics so utterly ridiculous...I'm sure the conversation was hiLARious, wish this post were.

JoCo says

Yes, the wife's had her eye on this song for a while too. The production is so tight and sparse, lots of space in the drum track, that harpsicord thing, all a brilliant counterpoint to the lush vocals. And I quote:

"Then you have the audacity to even come and step to me and ask to hold some money from me until you get your check next week."

Are you kidding me? And I haven't even mentioned my new favorite word: "automobills."
