People! New song! They said it would never happen!
A while ago John Scalzi, one of my favorite sci-fi authors (and a pal as well) asked if I would write a theme song for his new novel, Redshirts. I said yes, mostly so I could get a chance to read it. You can read about and listen to what happened next and listen to the song over at tor.com as of this morning. You can also check out the whole series of chats about other sci-fi-themed songs of mine that John and I did leading up to today. I’ll be putting Redshirt up in my store soon, and the band and I will be playing it on our June tour. Hooray!
Redshirts is out June 5th, and it’s a fantastic read. BUY IT, AND ALL OTHER THINGS!

I found this one strangely moving, in the same vein as You Crush Everything. Excellent.

I love it! The chat at tor.com was great too. I agree with Scalzi's comments about Jonathan Coulton, Storyteller - you have a knack for creating clever characters in your songs. Now how about a line of JoCo plushies? I'd pick up a redshirt, giant squid and a code monkey immediately!
Looking forward to seeing you in NYC this Saturday!

Can't wait to hear it live. John will be in Philly on June 6th, just a few days before the concert there . . . gonna be a great week for scifi in Philly!!

Great song. Definitely a new favorite. Any chance of adding a show in Reno? Come on! You'll be in SF, but I can't get down there that day!

I love the melody of this song, and really bittersweetly written. Another soon to be JoCo classic.

Scalzi writes amazing books. I was a Scalzi fan ever before I was a JoCo fan. This is way cool.

Bought it. Love it. Is there artwork to go with the song? Didn't seem to be downloaded, and I didn't find any other likely candidates around the net.

Heard the song for the first time on Friday at The Birchmere and loved it. I'm a Scalzi fan so I picked-up the book on Saturday and finished it Sunday night. Been listening to the song on a loop, all day today :)
